After trying many different makes and different grades of ammo, including all the expensive ones, it came down to RWS R50 that would shoot 10 shot bug holes at 50m. The R50 was just that little bit better than Centre X. R50 at €18 and Centre X at €14 a box of 50 rounds. "I pity the fool" at 50yds. or less my S&W422 field pistol shoots interceptors and remington vipers very good to this distance on an 8 inch target. Magnification of 12X in a EER scope is about the limit for me on hold-ability and twitchy-ness, and it focuses well under 20 yards, maybe even 10 yards. The image is in focus at about 10', but I haven't checked for parallax at that distance.
This is the most reliable rimfire pistol I've ever had. I think it even beats most revolvers for just always working; because a revolver won't work if it gets really dirty. The first rifle I got, back when I first got married, was when my then-new wife bought me a new Springfield Model 187 for our first Christmas - 1965. IIRC, though - Mine had the two-position locking holes, but fired from a closed bolt, just like a 10/22, and not from an open bolt.
