There are many designs of nuclear reactors but to make this simpler, I will take the example of the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR). The operation of a BWR is actually very simple. The nuclear fuel is submerged in water. As the fuel gets hot, the water gets hot as well and at some point it boils into steam.
