Vans tend to be more padded and have generally more overlapped layers while converse are still pretty much a couple layers of canvas with a padded rim sometimes. I think both shoes are great and wear both they wear similarly (vans tend to feel a little more snug). The key principles in vans are being authentic and staying true to yourself as a person and being passionate about the brand and your interests.
